Canvas, pottery, candles, tie dye, jewellery. Five hands-on activities worth trying at least once, and what each one teaches.

Canvas painting is the obvious starting point, and for good reason. It needs no prior skill, works for a two-year-old and a fifteen-year-old at the same table, and the finished piece goes home the same day. It is also the easiest way to see what a child gravitates towards before trying anything more involved.

Pottery comes next for children who like working with their hands in a more physical way. There is a rhythm to shaping clay that painting does not offer, and the result, glazed and fired, tends to become a genuine keepsake rather than something that ends up in a drawer.

Candle making suits children who enjoy a bit of chemistry alongside the craft. Measuring wax, choosing scent, watching it set: it is part science lesson, part gift-making, and the candle is usually proudly displayed rather than used.

Tie dye is closer to an experiment than an art class. Colours shift and blend in ways no one can fully predict, which takes the pressure off getting it right and puts the focus back on enjoying the process.

Jewellery making rounds things out for children who like detail work and small, fiddly pieces. It rewards patience and tends to be a favourite among children who already enjoy building or assembling things.

All five are available across our Lagos and Abuja venues, and can be mixed into a single session as add-ons if your child cannot decide on just one.
