Or arm and hand painting for older kids
Our artist starts here, before a single canvas comes out. Little ones pick a design and sit still for a few minutes with someone new, which does more for the rest of the session than it sounds. Older children who would rather not have anything on their face usually go for arm or hand painting instead. Same artist, same designs, different canvas.
Made on the spot, taken home after
Swords, flowers, dogs, crowns, whatever gets requested. Balloon art gives children something to do while the room fills up and the last guests arrive, and it turns a quiet arrival into a conversation almost immediately.
Beaded with each child's own name
Every child beads a bracelet with their own name on it. It is the smallest of the three and the one parents mention most. Children learn each other's names by making them, and everyone leaves wearing something they made themselves.
Why we bother
A room of children who have just arrived does not settle into painting on command. Some are shy, some are still holding a parent's hand, and almost none of them know our team yet. Face painting, balloons and bracelets fix that in the first fifteen minutes. Children queue up, chat to the artist, compare designs with each other, and by the time the brushes come out they are already comfortable with the people running the session.
That is why these three run at every session, not only at birthday parties. Parents tell us it is the detail their children talk about on the way home, alongside the piece they painted.
